Tribal Fest (TM) 7: “The 7-Year Twitch n’ Bitch”

 Performance Program

Written with joy and “an...ti-Ci---------PA-tion” (thank you, Dr. Frankenfurter)

by Kajira Djoumahna, your Producer and “Original BlackSheep”! Revised 4/7/7

***CAUTION! LOUD MUSIC WILL DEFINITELY BE PLAYED!***

Consider yourselves warned, and please don’t ask us to “turn it down!” Bring earplugs if that’s not

your cup o’ tea. We do have the benches on the side of the Youth Annex (YA) Building (near the Labyrinth Vendors) for quiet networking, as well as the *new this year* “Chillax” (a.k.a. “Quiet”) Room featuring massage therapy (table and chair), neuromuscular reprogramming and henna/mehndi artist/s for your relaxation in the Small Room of the YA on Saturday and Sunday by your request.

These are great places to chill and get away from the constant sensory input of the Main Hall.

ADMISSION is the same each of the 3 days of The Show:

Adults and Teens: $15, Kids under 5: free, from 5-12 years: $10, Seniors over 60: $10 with ID. *IF* the children “look older than their age,” as many kids do these days, bring IDs for them (birth certificates will suffice) to avoid questions, problems and hold-ups at the door. Some 5-year-olds look 7, and Teens are Young Adults, so must pay the prices for their age group. Thanks for your understanding.

Parents, since this event is not “the usual” type by any means, please be aware that not all acts may be suitable for all kids, depending upon your own values as you raise them, so do think about it before haulin’ the tiny masses to this created-for-the-alternative-scene-adults event. If you are open-minded there should be no problem but it is only fair I tell ya straight and true, as I always do. Any

“disclaimers” are noted in this Performance Program that I know about ahead of time. Thank you for your attention to the Above and Below important matters! =:-D

***IMPORTANT***

ALL ADMISSIONS MUST BE PAID *IN CORRECT CHANGE IN CASH*, and at the Main Door ONLY. Thanks for helping us speed your enjoyment by gettin’ ya’ll in as quickly and painlessly as possible by having your correct dollars in hand as you approach the Main Door each day.

You will wish to have handy one extra dollar or two for your party as:

* The Official Tribal Fest 7 Program will be available at the door of The Fest each day for $1.*

AND yes, it has bunches mo’ info than the online schedule, so bring a buck and save your paper!

***Please note that paying admission does not guarantee a seat during peak hours.

Familiarize yourself with the “no saving seats” policy’s stricter enforcement rules

for this year! (A few paragraphs further in this section of your Program.) Early arrival is suggested if you are not ambulatory or comfortable standing or walking for long periods of time.***

NOTE: If you’re feeling kinda broke lately but really wanna come, we can use your help! Get in free all day for only 3 hours of your time, and depending upon how many 3-hour shifts you take on, earn a free TF7 T-Shirt or Tank Top and even more is possible. We *always* need help!!! Tell the Door Person and we’ll set ya right up! (You have to be at least 16 to take us up on this offer, though.)

*Please note that this Performance Program is subject to a few changes between Now and

Then, and in fact already has been (*so re-check your performance time and those of your favorite groups, as some may vary by a few minutes from the earlier schedules*).

Deadlines are deadlines, and since we have a *real program* this year, I cannot wait until all

performer’s releases are in. Please listen for announcements for performers to make certain they are as scheduled while at The Fest. News as it comes in after this Program deadline can be found first (as usual) on our Tribe: !BlackSheep, Tribal Fest, Maui Intensive on www.Tribe.net. Our URL is: http://bsbd.tribe.net  up until May 4th. After that, we’re on our way and no more changes will be posted.

Of course do not forget to check www.BlackSheepBellyDance.com in November each year for classes and performance sign-up info! I promise to make the classes part easier for all next year! (Unless you don’t have computer access, get ready now to go to a friend’s, a library or an Internet Café as it will be absolutely required to sign up.) Check it out then to see the new and improved class-sign-up-thingee! Because I - and so many of you! - LOVED this year’s performer sign-up method SO much - such a personal touch involved this way, it will not vary much at all. I love getting all your cards and letters, photos and DVDs, and most of all, your own words about your own styles! So, class sign-ups and performance sign-ups will be handled separately in 2008, still with similar performance requirements. Tribal Fest 8: “The Year of Infinite Possibilities” is from May 14 - 18, 2008.

*About the wording in this year’s Program:

In the performer application process this year I asked for and got so many wonderfully thought-out descriptions I thought all of you would like to know more about what you’re about to see as well! So, instead of the usual stark, boring, day, time, name and place, I’ve spiced it up a bit - most often using words from the performers themselves. This process has been incredibly rewarding and to my knowledge for the first time ever, an actual full-length festival is supplying you with info about the performances you will be about to see! Dang near like a Theater Show, I dare say! Pretty cool, huh?

You will also find my own bubbly personality intact via some Hawai`ian Pidgin and other general American slang throughout ‘cause it makes it mo’ fun fo’ me ta write, yeah? You may even find a few emoticons here and there ‘cause I like those, too. Gee, ain’t this is fun already?! ;-D

There were surprisingly few “disclaimers” needed and lots of VARIETY this year - I think more than ever before. Also an extremely high level of expertise, which contributes to making Tribal Fest’s Magickal Seventh Year our Greatest Show Yet! YAY!

Thank you for noting that American Tribal Style BellyDance is being represented in the Program by its well-known acronym, ATS. Same dealio with Tribal Fest (TM) (TF), Belly Dance (BD), Kajira Djoumahna (KD) and BlackSheep BellyDance (BSBD) - their acronyms will be used in some cases as well, to save space.

*Please bear in mind that the “no saving seats” policy this year is being strictly enforced throughout the 3 days of The Show. If you get up, please allow someone else to sit in your seat. If you’re only going to be gone a few minutes, you can come back to your seat, just leave a personal item on it so others reading this know your intention. Everyone, if you see a chair like that, kindly treat the item with care and place it underneath or on your lap until the person returns. However, if anyone vacates a seat for more than 15 minutes it is no longer “theirs,” it has become “public domain seating” by then. Thank you for sharing and caring!

*The Lost-n-Found is located at the BlackSheep BellyDance/Tribal Fest booth in the Main Hall.

*Please note that if you do not see a state or country listed after some of our performers, that means they’re from California. Anyone from outside CA is noted.

*THANK YOU for READING, and ENJOY THE SHOW!*

The Princess of Hollywood will be performing Classical, Vintage-Style American Burlesque down to pasties and g-string, so if that bugs ya, leave after Solstice, above. (LOL! ;-D) It was only the year before last that I noticed such a tremendous amount of crossover between the BD community and that of the Burlesque community. So I asked my punky writer friend, who happens to be the most well-known, super-cool, highly skilled Belly Dancer and Burlesque artist to be the first to teach Burlesque at a BD festival - and she did! Yup, you saw it here first, last May at TF6! The Princess is, of course, a TF7 Instructor! WE LOVE YOU, “OUR LADY OF PRINCESS FARHANA”!!!

The End (for today ONLY, like duh!) of Tribal Fest Shows, and the Beginning of:

*10:30-ish p.m. -2:00 a.m.: The Cosmik Casbah official Tribal Fest After Party - Night Number One! Yes, folks, this year we have 2 separate After Parties with 2 different themes, AND each is  different from Tribal Fest in some creative manner! Produced by Electric Vardo, Groove Garden and Mandala Tribal. The After Parties will be held at the Odd Fellows Hall (seems appropriate! ;-D) which is upstairs and across the street from Whole Foods Market, about four or so long blocks away. See your Program’s full-page ad for more info, and be sure to check ‘em out: www.tribalfest7.com  The hall is not huge, so you may wish to take advantage of the pre-sale tix.

*ATTENTION: Firebugs and Burners!* I know I told many of you the parties would be held at the Grange Hall on Hwy. 12 but I was wrong. There would’ve been a gravel place for you to spin your toys there, as I explained and encouraged you to do, but The Odd Fellows Hall doesn’t have a spot - except of course, the cement Town Square of Sebastopol! ;-D (Right across from Whole Foods, too.) We do not have permits and this would not be associated with Tribal Fest itself, nor the After Parties......... but no one from Tribal Fest even knows you read this, right? Of course we are not encouraging you to break the law in any way, nor are Tribal Fest, Sebastopol Community Center or After Party Producers responsible in any way, legal or otherwise, should you decide to “give it a whirl.” Just do it away from the Sebastopol Community Center! Thanks for your understanding. Have fun and be safe!

We REALLY appreciate your help folding and stacking the chairs. Please pick up any trash and recyclables you see, too, and plop ‘em into their appropriate containers before you leave. If you’d like to help us take down and clean up, we could always use more help in that department, just stick around for a bit. Thanks a trillion!

I hope to see you at Maui Intensive 3 featuring Jill Parker and Heather Stants this July,  on one of my travels, or here next May for Tribal Fest 8: “The Year of Infinite Possibilities” After all, what’s a sideways 8, anyway? ;-D.... May 14-18, 2008!

Maui Intensive 4 will be the LAST Maui Intensive, so make plans to attend! Held in beautiful Haiku, Maui, HI from July 13-20, 2008. Instructors are: myself (Kajira Djoumahna); my Turkish Teacher, Mentor, Scholar, Historian, Holder of a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) with an Emphasis on Women’s Studies and Dear Friend, Elizabeth Artemis Mourat; as well as my wonderful, learned Teacher, Holder of a Master’s Degree (MA) in Dance Ethnology, trained since age 4 in India and the U.S., Classical Odissi Temple Dancer of Orissa, India, Whip-Snapper and Friend, Sarala Dandekar.

Joyfully,

Kajira and Chuck, BlackSheep BellyDance and The Sebastopol Community Center!

Oh yeah! One mo’ real-kine IMPORTANT “p.s.”:

If you’ve enjoyed Tribal Fest, please help keep us going and The Fest alive by voting for Tribal Fest/Kajira Djoumahna as “Favorite Event/Promoter” in Zaghareet! Magazine’s annual reader’s poll, The Golden Belly Awards.

I am pleased Tribal Fest has initiated so many other tribal-themed events around the world! After all, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I happened to just be the first one to take the plunge. However, as years pass, I wish to remind people that this was the first and is the largest of its kind anywhere. Your support for the “event that started it all” would be GREATLY appreciated and *sorely needed* for the Producer’s morale! ;-D

It’s easy (the voting part, that is!): You can cast your votes for Tribal Fest, myself as Instructor and Lifetime Achievement, BlackSheep BellyDance (Troupe of the Year) as well as your other favorites by going to Zag!’s site: www.zaghareet.freeservers.com. Voting by email is allowed for subscribers and non-subscribers alike. Just email your vote’s category/ies and name/s, along with *your name and address* to: zaghareetmagazine@earthlink.net

You will wish to subscribe if you don’t already! This is truly my favorite trade publication, if for no other reason than sheer volume and variety of content (well, and my ongoing, super-informative, really ass-kickin’ Tribal Q-n-A Column! LOL!) ;-D

MAHALO NUI LOA / THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your CONTINUED SUPPORT! It means a LOT, more than words can say!!!

See you all (and all your friends!) again next year!

Aloha and namaste`,

Kajira Djoumahna, Tribal Fest Producer and Chuck “The DJ” - her sole secretary and biggest fan. That “sole secretary” part must end for TF8, though! Promise, honey! The “Baby” is now a “Big Kid!” =:-O
