Tribal Fest Performance Application and Information

You must read this to perform!

At Tribal Fest, you’ll be dancing on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Try to leave at least a part of Sunday open – it will help your chances, and Sunday’s Show is every bit as talented and exciting as the first 2 days! 

Since inception, Tribal Fest has celebrated Tribal Style and folkloric group presentations and has grown to include Tribal and World Fusion forms, Gothic belly dance and envelope-pushing acts. We have never allowed strict cabaret or nightclub style Raks al Sharki unless as part of a particular presentation to make a point. This policy is still in effect and reflects upon costuming and music as well. Not allowed are bedlah sets (beaded bra and belts worn by cabaret dancers) or plastic pailettes or music used by these dance forms. Think coin bras and ethnic textiles instead of what you see at other events. Try to tone down the sparkles in favor of mirrors and other indigenous medium. Dance styles must be at least “Tribal-inspired” or related.     

Please print the Performance Application and Release Form further down, fill both documents out, and send them along with a copy of your TF Shopping Cart receipt for the classes you’ve signed up for.

If “you” are a duo, trio, troupe or have musicians, please enclose everyone’s class receipts in the same envelope, all at one time, when you send us the Application and Release.

Please Note that we love it when you take classes to support our teachers and the festival! We will do our best to schedule your performance time around your classes. We will schedule dancers who take classes first in order to avoid conflict with said classes. Thank you for your attention and for taking classes.

We strongly advise you to print the Check-In Procedures for Performers as well, though you should keep that for your own information.

You have time to think about your classes and have no need to rush. Please make sure that everyone who will be onstage signs the Release. Thanks!

Please follow the above instructions at your leisure between the dates of December 1 and February 15. We will start the Performance Program immediately after Feb.15. (If you’re reading this after Feb.15, please feel free to send in your application anyway, in case there’s still space. Cancellations happen, sometimes last-minute.)

ALL PROSPECTIVE PERFORMERS PLEASE NOTE: This is our disclaimer. Applying to perform is not a guarantee that you will be able to do so. We try so hard every year to fit everyone in, but recently that has just not been possible.

Note that the ONLY person/s to get in free are the performer/s themselves, who are allowed into the Dressing Room after check-in. Everyone else, please be prepared to enter through the Main Door at the front of the auditorium, thank you.

At Tribal Fest Jeffe and Layla are our official videographers. Take advantage of their great skills and special services offered!

PHOTOGRAPHY *

We have had Lee of Weathervane Images taking photos on an official basis and hope that great service continues. Tribal Fest has one or two (or more) established dance-scene photographers on site, but you never know for sure who’ll be there when.

* As always you may have someone film and/or photograph your show. If you put your performance on YouTube or photos on Facebook, please tell your viewers where and when it took place. Thank you so very much!

Solo Performer: 5 minutes

2-4 Performers: 7 minutes

5 or more Performers: 9 minutes

All performance times will be noted in the Program, available on Wednesday, the first day of Tribal Fest. If you have a song that’s less than your allotted time, please let me know so I can schedule accordingly, I’d appreciate that. Thank you!
